The MRC Pontiac is committed to fostering a community where families, children, adults, and seniors can thrive. Through its regional planning initiatives and ongoing collaboration with municipalities, community organizations, and local partners, the MRC works to build inclusive, vibrant communities that reflect the needs and realities of its residents.
Across its vast and predominantly rural territory, issues such as housing, transportation, access to services, recreation, and community participation remain key regional priorities. The MRC embraces collaboration, innovation, and community engagement to enhance quality of life and support the well-being of residents of all ages and generations.

Politique Municipalité amie des aînés (MADA)
The MRC Pontiac and 14 participating municipalities have committed to the Municipalité amie des aînés (MADA) approach in order to better adapt services, infrastructure, and living environments to the needs of an aging population. This initiative is supported by the Secrétariat aux aînés du ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec.
The initiative is guided by a shared vision:
“By 2031, Pontiac will be recognized as a region where every senior ages at the heart of a caring, inclusive, and interconnected community.”
Adopted in 2026, the MADA Policy of the MRC Pontiac and its participating municipalities will guide actions supporting older adults over the coming years.
The MADA policy aims to promote active aging, independence, and social participation among seniors while improving access to services and information.
What is a Municipalité amie des aînés?
A Municipalité amie des aînés (MADA) is a community that:
- Encourages seniors to actively participate in community life;
- Adapts its services, infrastructure, and policies to meet the needs of older adults;
- Promotes social inclusion and respect;
- Works collaboratively with community partners;
- Creates environments that support active aging.

A Community-Driven Initiative
The MRC Pontiac’s MADA Policy was developed through extensive community engagement, including:
- A regional survey of residents;
- Several public consultation sessions;
- Meetings with community partners;
- Active participation from municipalities and organizations across the region.
This collaborative process helped identify the key needs and priorities of older adults, particularly regarding mobility, access to information, social participation, housing, and access to services.

A Forward-Looking Initiative
Families are at the heart of our communities. Whether attracting new residents, supporting young households, or enhancing the quality of life of our citizens, the Pontiac MRC recognizes the importance of developing living environments that meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s families.
The MRC Pontiac s currently working toward the development of its future Politique Familiale Municipale, which will complement the initiatives already undertaken in the areas of social development and quality of life.
