Lorene Hodgins-McLean was born in Shawville on December 29, 1921. She studied with Morten Baslaw, Larry Halpen, Bruce Garner, Tomoko Kamada, and Jim Boyd at the Ottawa School of Art, as well as with Margaret Perkin from Toronto. A member of the Ottawa Watercolour Society and one of the founding members of the Pontiac Artists’ Studio Tour, she taught from her studio on Green Lake from 1980 to 2005. Her work focuses primarily on watercolour and acrylic, and she is known for her vibrant colours, fluid lines, and the strength of her compositions. The pastoral scenes of the Pontiac and flowers are among her favourite subjects. Lorene Hodgins-McLean has exhibited in numerous galleries, including the Andrew Dickson Gallery in Pakenham and, in Ottawa, the Muskoka Tamarack Gallery, Gravenhurst, PJ’s Gallery, York Gallery, Crossroads, and the Ottawa Hospital.
