Robert Bertrand (1953-2022): Remembered
Former Member of Parliament for Pontiac, Robert Bertrand, a native of Fort-Coulonge, passed away on May 17th after battling cancer. He served as a Member of Parliament for the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) from 1993 to 2004 in the riding then known as Pontiac-Gatineau-Labelle.
Robert Bertrand was first elected to the House of Commons in Ottawa in 1993 when Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was elected and was then re-elected in 1997 and 2000. He also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence in 1998, a role he maintained for two years. Robert was also Grand Chief of the Native Alliance of Quebec and also served as National Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.
