Litchfield, QC – September 15, 2023 — In memoriam of Doug Rousselle (1950-2023)
On behalf of the MRC Pontiac Council of Mayors, MRC staff and the residents of the Pontiac, I would like to express our profound remorse and sadness concerning the recent passing of Mayor Doug Rousselle – the mayor of Rapides-des-Joachims.
Doug was a member of the Council of Mayors at the MRC since November 2021. He was a strong advocate on many issues, including forestry, public safety, and economic revitalization. Even during his illness, Doug contributed to the work of the various committees and councils on which he sat, never missing a meeting.
Doug was extremely proud of Rapides-des-Joachims and had great vision and plans for the future of his community. In particular, he played a pivotal role in the reopening of the Commonwealth Plywood sawmill in his municipality last fall. Doug’s legacy will live on as the Rapides-des-Joachims municipal council will soon inaugurate the new splashpad in his memory.
We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife Joanne, his children Tina and Scott, and the rest of the family – we know how much they will miss him. The MRC Council of Mayors will certainly miss him dearly. The MRC Pontiac flag is at half-mast and a moment of silence will be observed in Doug’s memory at the next Council of Mayors meeting on September 20.
Friends may pay their final respects to Doug at the Valley Funeral Home, 33337 Highway 17 W, Deep River, ON, on Saturday, September 23, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. In Doug’s memory, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Deep River and District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Warden of the MRC Pontiac
