QUEBEC CITY, Feb. 15, 2022 \/CNW Telbec\/ –<\/strong> The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dub\u00e9, announced today, following a recommendation from Public Health, that the imposition of the vaccine passport will be gradually withdrawn in the coming weeks, by March 14th.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the introduction of this measure last September was intended to act in a targeted and temporary manner, in complementarity with other health measures in place. Its gradual withdrawal is part of a context of improvement in the situation, particularly in terms of hospital capacity within the health and social services network.<\/p>\n

Steps for the withdrawal of the vaccine passport<\/em><\/p>\n

February 16th<\/u><\/p>\n

As of tomorrow, the vaccination passport will no longer be required for access to big-box stores (1,500 square metres or more), as well as to the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des alcools du Qu\u00e9bec (SAQ) and the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise du cannabis (SQDC). This measure was introduced at the height of the 5th wave in order to better protect the population, and consequently the hospital system. Considering that the proportion of the population that has contracted COVID-19 is estimated to be close to 25% (including a large proportion of unvaccinated persons) and that the capacity of the network is improving, this measure no longer appears to be necessary at this time.<\/p>\n

February 21<\/u><\/p>\n

As of February 21, it will no longer be necessary to present a proof of vaccination to access places of worship and to attend funerals.<\/p>\n

March 14th<\/u><\/p>\n

Finally, on March 14, it will no longer be necessary to present it in places where the obligation is currently in effect. This includes restaurants, bars, movie theatres, shows, casinos, public events and meetings. The use of the vaccine passport will also be removed from recreational venues such as recreation centers, sports centers, spas and saunas and rooms rented for private gatherings.<\/p>\n

This includes facilities maintained by an institution in the health and social services network, intermediate resources and private seniors’ residences.<\/p>\n

Maintenance of the vaccination passport for travel purposes<\/em><\/p>\n

It should be noted, however, that beyond March 14, the vaccination passport will continue to be mandatory according to federal government requirements for domestic travel on board rail and air transport and when travelling abroad to meet international travel requirements.<\/p>\n

“As the context of the pandemic has evolved in a favorable way, we must begin to prepare to learn to live with the virus. We are withdrawing the use of the vaccine passport in a cautious and gradual manner, not closing the door on a return of these measures if necessary.
