Naturally rich in exceptional landscapes and other tourist attractions, where cycling, white water rafting, hunting, fishing, canoe-camping, and hiking enthusiasts come to commune with nature, Pontiac also has an interesting built heritage and a substantial cultural network, which provide a solid foundation for future growth.
Product and Service Development
The Pontiac is known as a nature and adventure destination with a strong cottage industry and significant agritourism development opportunities. Guided by its Vision Pontiac 2020 strategic plan, the MRC focuses on the development of recreational, adventure, cultural, and agricultural tourism, and the creation of a diverse tourism attraction network and quality lodging and dining.
Industry Support
The MRC Pontiac supports the implementation of major industry development projects. To that end, it has formed a partnership with the local tourist association of more than 30 tourism businesses in order to help grow the industry through technical and financial support. Also, our partnership with regional tourism associations in the greater Outaouais and Ottawa Valley regions allows us to increase our visibility and the number of visitors to the Pontiac destination.
In addition, to further enrich our offer, the MRC Pontiac has created a 200 km cycling and hiking trails network for summer tourism; in winter, the trails are used for snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
Tourism Promotion
The Pontiac’s positioning as a destination ‘Rich in discoveries and contrasts’ is a major marketing objective for the MRC. We run summer and winter promotional campaigns; target markets, messages and media are identified in consultation with the local industry and strengthened through our regional partners’ advertising and promotion networks. In addition, given the increased use of the web for vacation planning, the MRC ensures an online presence with the use of social media pages and the tourism website: www.tourismepontiac.com.
Tourism Information Centre
In addition to tourism development and promotion, the MRC Pontiac is also involved in visitor information management. The Tourism Information Centre located in Campbell’s Bay provides exhaustive information about the Pontiac, and complementary information on neighbouring regions. At the Centre, visitors can obtain documentation or suggestions for activities in the Pontiac. As an alternative, five unstaffed tourist information relays throughout the territory provide summary information to travellers day or night.
In partnership with the local association, the MRC Pontiac is also responsible for the content of the Pontiac Tourist Guide.
