Shawville is known as the commercial centre of the Pontiac. In addition to more than 50 local businesses and services from retail chains to a local bakery, a butcher shop, clothing and footwear boutiques, various types of restaurants, and so much more, Shawville is also the Pontiac’s medical centre.
The red brick homes throughout the oldest part of town are reminders of this town’s prosperity over time. The annual Shawville Fair, one of the oldest agricultural fairs in Canada, celebrates the history of the village, which was settled by the Irish in 1873 as a farming community.
