Message from the Warden, Jane Toller – October 9, 2020

Dear residents of the Pontiac,

I would like to start off by congratulating our local singer Michaela Cahill of Fort-Coulonge for making it to the semi-final of La Voix on TVA. We are so proud of her accomplishments so far. The entire Pontiac is cheering you on Michaela! Don’t forget to vote for her this Sunday night. Go Michaela go!

In regards to COVID-19, earlier this week a major update took place which drastically changed the number of cases that I had received from the CISSSO to report. In the end, it has presented a better picture for the MRC Pontiac because instead of 10 new cases in our region, we discovered that 7 of those cases were actually located in the Municipality of Pontiac, which is part of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais. A further correction was made by the CISSSO today to result in the MRC Pontiac only being at 4 cases. I apologize for causing any confusion or concern, it is very fortunate that this has all been resolved.

As many of you will be getting together to celebrate the long-weekend, thanksgiving or the start of hunting season, I would like to advise that everyone take the proper precautions to ensure the health and safety of the Pontiac. A small reminder that the current limit for indoor and outdoor private gatherings is 6 people, or two families. Please keep this in mind when gathering with your friends and families this weekend. We must stay vigilant, take the proper precautions and continue to wear our masks when out in public if we want to keep the cases low in our region. Let’s continue to do our best and prevent the further spread of the virus.

I would also like to encourage everyone to continue to take part in the Culture Month events happening around the region. There are still several drive-in movie events to come, including one in Shawville this Saturday night. You can find more information about these events on the MRC’s website at this link: https://mrcpontiac.qc.ca/en/celebrating-quebecs-culture-month-in-the-mrc-pontiac/

You can continue to look for daily updates on my Warden Jane Toller Facebook page or listen to my weekly updates on CHIP FM Radio.

On behalf of the staff at the MRC and the Council of Mayors, I would like to wish everyone in the Pontiac a wonderful thanksgiving weekend and a great start to the hunting season! Please keep the health of the Pontiac in your thoughts and prayers. Together Pontiac!

-Jane Toller
