Campbell’s Bay, January 22nd, 2019— The first Youth Council of the MRC Pontiac was officially held yesterday on January 21st, 2019. The Council’s meeting took place at the MRC Pontiac building. It is a first in the history of Quebec’s MRCs.
The Youth Council is made up of 18 students between the ages of 14 and 18 representing the 18 municipalities of the MRC. Each Council representative was presented by Warden Jane Toller to a room filled with theirs parents and local mayors, municipal representatives and media. Also present were MNA for Pontiac André Fortin and MRC Director General Bernard Roy.
“It was a great step forward for the MRC Pontiac to create our first Youth Council! The students are excited to begin to work on their priorities to make the Pontiac a more vibrant region for youth. It is important to give our youth a voice,” states Warden Toller, who initiated the project with the support of the Regional Council.
The Youth Council representatives received the MRC’s official logo pin from their respective mayor or municipal representative and will henceforth hold their meetings on the third Monday of every month at the MRC Pontiac building.
