Gatineau, May 28, 2021 – Hydro-Québec is continuing to modernize its infrastructure in the Pontiac MRC to improve grid reliability for the benefit of its customers. To ensure the long-term operability of Wyman substation, located at 11 chemin Sixth Line East in Bristol, Hydro-Québec will replace one of the substation’s control buildings. Work will begin at the end of May and continue until December 2021. The new digital technologies to be integrated into the building will allow certain operations to be carried out remotely, among other things. Wyman substation will be one of the first five substations in Québec to undergo such a digital shift.
The work may lead to a temporary increase in traffic in the area due to the presence of Hydro-Québec employees and suppliers. Residents may also see more vehicles parked on the side of the road. For safety reasons, Hydro-Québec will install traffic signs near the jobsite while the work is under way.
The Wyman 120-25 kilovolt (kV) substation provides power to customers in the municipalities of Bristol, Shawville and Clarendon in the Pontiac MRC, as well as in the municipality of Pontiac in the Collines-de-l’Outaouais MRC. It lowers the voltage from transmission lines from 120 to 25 kV.
