FINANCIAL HELP AVAILABLE TO FOREST ENTREPRENEURS


A sum of $ 25 million is now available to support the owners of forest machinery and truckers affected by the forest crisis.

The Pontiac MRC forestry department includes a forest engineer and a forestry technician. This dynamic and

experienced team has a wide ranging mandate and is involved in most of the Pontiac MRC’s forestry files. This requires ongoing cooperation with citizens, elected officials and several other partners. This service is therefore a primary meeting place for all individuals connected to the forestry sector.

 

Here is an overview of the files in which the forest service is involved.    

Public forests

  • Forest crisis
  • Consolidation of the forest industry
  • Single officer project
  • Corporation for permanent maintenance of public fire roads
  • Integrated resource management table / local issue table
  • Public consultations on forest management plans submitted by individuals awarded timber supply and forest management agreements (TSFMA)

Shared Municipal Territory (TPI)

  • Planning forest management projects on TPI, management and follow-up of harvest operations
  • Contracts for forest harvesting, timber marking, and fire road construction
  • Implementation of TPI forest certification
  • Management of cottage and commercial leases
  • Management of land files (naked possession, unlawful occupation, etc.)
  • Daily management of public requests and concerns regarding TPI
  • Management of public consultations
  • Identification of property lines with landowners adjacent to TPI
  • Multi-resource advisory committee
  • Regional and provincial TPI committee
  • Other management projects

Private forests

  • Support for municipalities with respect to municipal regulation of logging in private forests;
  • Partner with the agence de mise en valeur des forĂŞts privĂ©es de l’Outaouais [Outaouais private forests enhancement agency] (administrative committee, board of directors and other ad hoc committees);
  • Partner with the Pontiac Wood Producers Association to accredit forest contractors for improving forest practices in private forests.

Development, education, awareness and cooperation

  • Raise awareness and educate citizens, elected officials, and partners on forest issues;
  • Organize the JournĂ©e des arbres et des forĂŞts du Pontiac (trees and forest day)
  • Encourage cooperation among various partners;
  • Provide services to meet occasional requests from various partners using forests in the MRC territory;
  • Parcitipate in socio-economic development activities.
